Alternative methods of doping SnO2-based materials to purification of the water environment from pollutants

The aim of the project is to develop a simple and low-temperature method of obtain of tin dioxide by mechanochemical and ultrasonic treatment to receive of new effective materials (sorbents and photocatalysts) for cleaning water environments from pollutants (dyes, phenols, important metals, etc.). During the project it`s planned to conduct the following researches: synthesis of tin dioxide by precipitation; doping of precipitated and commercial samples of tin dioxide by mechanochemical and ultrasonic treatment in the presence of dopants; researches of physical-chemical parameters and sorption and photocatalytic properties of doped samples. The d- and f-metals in the form of salts and oxides will be planned used as dopants. Structural and morphological characteristics of obtained SnO2 samples will be analyzed by methods of DTA, X-ray diffraction, low-temperature adsorption-desorption of nitrogen, UV-Vis spectroscopy, TEM, SEM. All doped samples will be tested as an ion exchanger of important metal cations, and their photocatalytic activity will be determined in the processes of photodegradation of dyes and phenols under the visible light action. Since the widespread use of tin dioxide is due to its functional characteristics, it`s important to research the ways of synthesis and modification, which are aimed at improving these characteristics. In particular, the use of transition metal doping allows to obtain materials that are characterized by a developed meso-macroporous structure and high sorption and photocatalytic activity, which is necessary for the removal of pollutants from aqueous media. At the same time, in this project for doping it’s proposed to use alternative methods of mechano- and sonochemistry, which are simple, environmentally and economically feasible. Thus, these researches will be aimed at developing a simple and environmentally friendly way to obtain materials based on tin dioxide for the purification of water environments from pollutants.
