22–26 травня 2017 року Національний ботанічний сад імені М.М. Гришка НАН України, Інститут ботаніки імені М.Г. Холодного НАН України та Ботанічний сад імені академіка О.В. Фоміна Київського національного університету імені Тараса Шевченка мали честь приймати міжнародний науковий захід європейського масштабу – Восьму конференцію «Planta Europa» (8th Planta Europa Сonference).
Провідну європейську мережу в галузі збереження рослинного різноманіття «Planta Europa» було створено в 1995 році – як об’єднання установ і незалежних осіб, які разом діють для збереження європейських дикорослих рослин та грибів і середовищ їхнього існування. Спільною метою членів цієї організації є припинення втрати біологічної різноманітності в Європі нині та в майбутньому. Наразі цією міжнародною ініціативою охоплено 77 організацій-членів із 35 європейських країн.
Для об’єднання природоохоронних зусиль та обміну інформацією кожного третього року – щоразу в іншій країні – «Planta Europa» проводить міжнародні конференції, в рамках яких обговорюються успішні проекти, нові підходи й методи збереження рослин, здійснюється координація діяльності з питань охорони природи. Перша така конференція відбулась у 1995 році в м. Єр (Франція) і відтоді стала традиційною. В наступні рази її приймали такі локації: Уппсала, Швеція (1998 р.); Пругоніце, Чехія (2001 р.); Валенсія, Іспанія (2004 р.); Клуж-Напока, Румунія (2007 р.); Краків, Польща (2011 р.), Колімбарі, Ханья, Крит – Греція (2014 р.).
Нинішня – вже восьма – конференція проходила під девізом «Збережемо рослини заради майбутнього Землі» (Save Plants for Earth’s Future), що привертає увагу до гостроти проблем, пов’язаних зі збереженням екологічного балансу й охороною біорізноманіття. Київська конференція «Planta Europa» проводилася насамперед із метою оцінити успішність реалізації Європейської стратегії збереження рослин (ESPC) і оновити цільові стратегії ефективного збереження рослин в Європі на європейському, національному й регіональному рівнях.
Загалом до її роботи долучилися 156 учасників із 21 країни Європи, Азії, Північної Америки й Океанії.
У перший день заходу – 22 травня – для іноземних гостей було організовано екскурсію визначними місцями Києва.
Офіційна церемонія відкриття та пленарні засідання тривали впродовж 23 травня: тоді з вітальними словами до учасників конференції звернулися голова мережі «Planta Europa» Філіп Бардін (Франція), директор Інституту ботаніки імені М.Г. Холодного НАН України член-кореспондент НАН України Сергій Мосякін, директор Національного ботанічного саду імені М.М. Гришка НАН України член-кореспондент НАН України Наталія Заіменко, начальник Науково-дослідної частини Київського національного університету імені Тараса Шевченка доктор біологічних наук Ганна Толстанова, директор Ботанічного саду імені академіка О.В. Фоміна Київського національного університету імені Тараса Шевченка кандидат біологічних наук Олександр Сенчило.
Впродовж 23–24 травня було заслухано 4 пленарні доповіді та близько 25 секційних доповідей, присвячених таксономії, екології, філогенетиці, еволюції й охороні рослин Європи та світу.
25 травня в межах конференції відбулися три екскурсії, під час яких учасники конференції мали можливість відвідати цікаві природні місця України, а саме: ділянки Канівського природного заповідника «Зміїні острови» (на околицях м. Канів Черкаської області), заказник «Тулинецькі переліски» (на території Миронівського району Київської області), Національний дендрологічний парк «Софіївка» (м. Умань Черкаської області) й урочище «Лісники» Національного природного парку «Голосіївський».
Локацією заключного дня конференції – 26 травня 2017 року – став Національний ботанічний сад імені М.М. Гришка НАН України. Після екскурсії територією цієї академічної наукової установи учасники обговорили підсумки й ухвалили резолюцію конференції. Основним аспектом, вказаним у резолюції, є рішення щодо продовження роботи над реалізацією Європейської стратегії збереження рослин (EPCS) та активної участі в розробленні нової Глобальної стратегії збереження рослин (GSPC).
Наступне зібрання мережі «Planta Europa» заплановано провести 2020 року в Парижі (Франція).
