On Thursday, November 15, memorial evening for outstanding Ukrainian mathematician Georgy Voronoï will be held in Kyiv.
Halyna Syta and Irina Yehorchenko will speak about Voronoï and his research. Talks of Voronoïʼs relatives and countrymen are also planned.

This event is organized by Kyiv City Council in collaboration with Mykhailo Drahomanov National Pedagogical University, Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences, and Kyiv Mathematical Society.
The event is intended for a general audience that interested in Ukrainian history and culture! Admission is free.

Recall that Georgy Voronoï (1868–1908) was a Doctor of Mathematics, Professor of Warsaw University, Corresponding Member of Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences. He was born in a small town Zhuravka, Poltava Province of that time, and graduated from Saint Petersburg University. His papers are dedicated to number theory and calculus. Voronoï is a co-founder of a new field of mathematics, namely, geometry of numbers. Mathematical objects named after him, Voronoi diagrams, are extensively used in modern science and engineering for computer graphics, geometric modeling, design of robots, pattern recognition, research in artificial intelligence, design of geographic information systems, etc.
In 2018, Ukraine celebrates the 150th anniversary of Georgy Voronoï at the national level (in accordance to the Regulation of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine “On Celebration of Memorable Dates and Anniversaries in 2018” of 08.02.2018 No. 2287-VIII).
