Gintov Oleg Borisovich was born on January 22, 1935 in the town of Tarascha, Kyiv region. Father Skomarovsky Anatoliy Mikhailovich was born in 1910, mother Blazhko Elena Ostapovna was born in 1913. His father was repressed in 1938 (he died in the Karaganda camp in 1942). From 1941 to 1944 Oleg Borisovich, along with his mother and his father's relatives, were evacuated to Perm. There, the mother remarried a serviceman Gintov Boris Stepanovich, who adopted Oleg. In 1944 the family returned to Ukraine. In 1952, Oleg Borisovich graduated from the secondary school in Tarashcha and entered the geological faculty (geophysical department) of the T. Shevchenko Kyiv State University. He graduated from the University in 1957 and until 1973 worked in the expeditions of the trust "Kievgeologiya" on posts from senior technician- geophysicist to the chief of the thematic party of the Kiev complex geophysical expedition. He defended his candidate's thesis in 1970. In 1973 he was invited to the Institute of Geophysics of NASU to the post of Senior Researcher. He defended Doctoral dissertation in the specialties of "geophysics" and "geotectonics" in 1981. Under the scientific supervision of O.B. Gintov 9 post-graduate students out of 10 defended their Ph.D. theses on the results of tectonophysical studies. Now he leads three doctoral students. In 2012, O.B. Gintov was elected as a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine of the specialty "Tectonophysics". He has four children from his first marriage with Gintov Zina Borisovna - the sons Alexei and Vadim (Alexey died in 2016), from his second marriage with Natalia Vladimirovna Petrichenko – son Vladimir and daughter Oksana. All the children are Gintov.
Наук. діяльність спрямовано на розвя’зання заг. проблем геотектоніки та геодинаміки за допомогою тектонофізичних методів. Розробив модель деформації консолідованої земної кори, яка враховує в’язко-пластичні деформації порід, і на цій основі побудував структурно-тектонофізичні та тектонічні карти Укр. щита.
