The author developed new methods for the determination of biophysical and morphostructural parameters of stands using lidar data. Contemporary approaches to assess leaf area index (LAI) as one of most full and objective number of photosynthesis processes activity have been analyzed. A method to remotely estimate LAI index using airborne lidar survey is proposed. A calculation body of proposed method is based on regression model which couples LAI value and lidar data derivatives. Multiple regression equation is constructed. The results of experimental investigation confirm availability and correctness of proposed method. Directs for further research to improve the precision of the method are outlined therewith. A prerequisite for the accurate determination of the phytomass is the presence morphostructural indicators stand, in particular, the number of trees per unit area, the height of the trees and the area of the projective cover. The use of novel remote sensing methods allowed us to obtain the necessary estimates for these morphostructural indicators. In particular, in the work to this end, we used the method of automated detection of a single tree in the forest according to the laser- airborne lidar survey. After assessing the accuracy of these indicators it’s were used in the calculations on the biomass over large areas. Comparison of the results of calculations of phytomass using airborne lidar data and field data showed that remote method allows a more realistic assessment of phytomass, and in much less time.
