The main attention will be paid to the scientific characteristics of the stereotypical perception of the concept of “disaster” in the context of collective and personal experience of significant social upheavals (fighting epidemics, wars, famines, changes in religion, as well as political, ideological and economic vectors in public administration, and transformation of world-view and ritual-household traditions, caused by these vectors), which in different periods took place in the history of Ukrainian nation. An important milestone of the study is to demonstrate a diachronic slice of life, transformation, evolution or disappearance of the concept of “disaster” in various areas of family, socio-economic life of Ukrainians, worldview-subjective and objectively determined grounds for formation or interpretation of this concept. For the first time in Ukrainian ethnography, the very definition of the term "disaster", its typological place or synonymy among other — more or less significant concepts “troubles”, “problems”, “tragedies”— will be established.
