Today camelina or false flax is considered one of the most promising oil crop given the characteristics of its oil fatty acid composition as food purposes and for use as a biofuel raw material. However, cultivated camelina (Camelina sativa (L.) Crantz.) has limited genetic diversity, so it is advisable to study closely related species within this genus to attract a new gene pool in this oil crop selection. In particular, the most attractive in this sense is the closest wild relative of cultivated camelina - small seed false flax (Camelina microcarpa Andrz. ex DC). However, despite all the scientific and practical significance of studying the camelina genetic diversity, currently the assessment of C. sativa and C. microcarpa genetic resources in Ukraine has been very limited, although Ukraine is the camelina origin center. The purpose of this project is the molecular genetic study of available genetic resources of camelina and small seed false flax Ukrainian origin for further use in the selection improvement of camelina varieties. The study of C. sativa and C. microcarpa genetic polymorphism is planned to be carried out by using previously tested by the project authors markers based on intron length polymorphism of β- and γ-tubulin genes, as one of the most successful variants of existing ILP-markers (Intron Length Polymorphism) – universal approach for genetic differentiation of a wide range of organisms, and SSR-analysis, as one of the most used and effective means of studying inter- and intraspecific plant diversity.
