The paper will consider the specifics of the interaction of such phenomena as language and politics, discourse as a subject of study; genres of political discourse (ritual, orientational, agonal) are classified; the varieties of political language (dialogue, monologue), forms (oral, written) are singled out; the main functions of political discourse are clarified according to various classifications of researchers; the main features of political discourse are identified; the structure of political discourse according to semantic, linguocognitive and pragmatic characteristics is considered; the place of the phenomenon of manipulation and genre stratification of the presidential political discourse is outlined. The paper will cover lexical-analytical and emotional-image language tools in the Czech political discourse of V. Havel and V. Klaus. The key words of the presidential speech will be singled out, which perform a unifying social function and testify to the personal system of values, which is manifested in such lexical fields as home (land, territory) and people (people, Czechs, nation, we). The functional potential of logical-analytical and emotional-image linguistic means in the Czech presidential discourse will be outlined. The study will deepen the understanding of the qualitative characteristics of metaphorical units used in the texts of speeches of the Presidents of the Czech Republic V. Havel and V. Klaus. The paper will consider a variety of communication strategies of political discourse that ensure a successful dialogue, focusing on the specifics of the use of communication strategies that help presidents persuade and use them for suggestive purposes.
