Now the Black Sea is one of the most polluted seas in the world in terms of anthropogenic radionuclides, including cesium 137Cs and strontium 90Sr. Historically, the main sources of radioactive contamination in the Black Sea have been the global fallout of radionuclides as a result of nuclear weapons tests in the mid-20th century and the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. Existed models for the assimilation of radionuclides by marine organisms are mostly tuned to describe radiocesium isotopes that tend to accumulate in marine organisms. For other radionuclides, quite simplified approaches are often used, which give large errors. Although they can also make a significant contribution to human radiation. Creating a mathematical model of the Black Sea that can describe the transport of large amounts of radionuclides in the marine environment and their assimilation by marine organisms, as well as calculate human radiation doses, is an important task. The aim of the project is to develop a mathematical model of the Black Sea based on the POSEIDON-R model for a comprehensive study of radiation pollution of the Black Sea since the middle of the last century, and to provide a forecast for the future. Numerical simulations will be used to calculate changes in the concentration of radionuclides in water, sediments and marine organisms of the Black Sea, as well as calculated doses of human internal radiation from anthropogenic and natural radionuclides to compare their contribution to the total dose in different periods in the past and future.
