The Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine published a collective monograph "Development of the Titanium and Aluminum Industry of Ukraine on an Innovative Basis: Prospects and Limitations", prepared as part of a set of scientific and scientific-technical (experimental) works of an interdisciplinary nature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2023-2024, aimed at developing and scientific support for the implementation of national strategic initiatives for the development of innovative industrial activities, including mining and processing of titanium and aluminum raw materials and production of high value-added end products.
Today, the creation of high-tech industries in Ukraine with unique raw materials, highly skilled workers, and modern technologies is extremely important. This issue is widely discussed in the media at the governmental, expert and public levels.
This monograph contains answers to questions about modernization of production facilities for the production of high value-added products, and ways to expand the range of titanium and aluminum alloy products for the needs of domestic and international markets.
The authors outlined the main features of Ukrainian industry and formed a vision of the future development of our national economy through the prism of international experience of post-war recovery. This made it possible to identify the types of industrial activities that are promising for post-war recovery and to set out "homework" for the economic policy of Ukraine's future development.
The publication analyzes the current state and prospective directions of development of the titanium and aluminum industries in Ukraine and the world. In particular, much attention is paid to the basic conditions for their functioning: mineral resources, key players in mining and production, institutional, scientific and human resources. The researchers studied the promising markets for titanium and aluminum products for high-tech industries and, on this basis, substantiated "windows of opportunity" for the integration of Ukrainian producers into the highest levels of global value chains.
The authors also assessed the macroeconomic and multiplier effects of the contribution of innovative development of the titanium and aluminum industries to the total output, value added, imports, and wages in Ukraine.
Practically significant in this work is the feasibility study of innovative projects of titanium and aluminum industries of Ukraine development, the definition of criteria of investment attractiveness of innovative projects for the country, Ukrainian and foreign investors, namely: obtaining profits from investments, generation of net profit in the long term, low risk of loss of invested funds, government guarantees, funds or insurance companies in the preservation of investments, tools for assessing the attractiveness of innovative investment projects with significant investments.
The authors of the monograph have established a scientific position on creating favorable conditions for attracting investment in the modernization of existing titanium and aluminum processing facilities, as well as the construction of new high-tech industries in Ukraine, in particular through the introduction of financial incentives, support for Ukrainian scientific research and development, the formation of a national innovation ecosystem and the acceleration of technology transfer, which will have a positive macroeconomic effect not only for the production of industrial products, but also for the economy of Ukraine as a whole.
The monograph will be useful for researchers, government officials, teachers, graduate students, and students of higher education institutions that train specialists in engineering, technical, and economic specialties.
