Department of Physical Chemistry of Fossil Fuels of the Institute of Physical–Organic Chemistry and Coal Chemistry named after L. M. Lytvynenko of the NAS of Ukraine (and from 1986 to 2004 - the Department of Physical Chemistry and Technology of Combustible Minerals of the L.M. Pisarzhevsky Institute of Physical Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine) was created on the basis of the Department of Chemistry of Oxidation Processes of the Institute of Geology and Geochemistry Combustible minerals of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in accordance with the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR № 327 on 10.09.1986 and № 371-B on 24. 10. 1986. The initiator of the creation of a single chemical institution in the Western region of the NAS of Ukraine was Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Professor, Doctor of chemistry Kucher Roman Volodymyrovych, who headed this organization in the period from 1986 to 1991. Today, the Department of PhChFF InPOCC NAS of Ukraine is well-known in Ukraine and abroad, as well as the only one in the Western region of the academic direction of the chemical research institution, which conducts priority fundamental and applied research in the field of modern Physical chemistry, chemistry of macromolecular compounds, chemistry of oxidative processes, nanotechnologies, nanochemistry, biotechnology and ecology. The presence of high scientific potential of the Department of PhChFF InPOCC NAS of Ukraine allows to set and effectively solve the important chemical, chemical and technological, biotechnological, as well as chemical and ecological scientific problems.
